If you’re considering private aviation in the UAE, the first decision isn’t which jet to buy. It’s whether you should own one at all.
For occasional travel, chartering usually makes more sense because you avoid crew, maintenance, insurance, hangar and aircraft-management costs. Full ownership becomes more reasonable when private flying reaches roughly 200 to 300 hours per year, although route pattern and the need for guaranteed availability matter as much as the raw number of hours.
For 2026, the aircraft worth considering also depend heavily on where you’re flying from Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
If you’re flying privately only a few times a month, start with charter.
Chartering lets you use a light or midsize jet for shorter Gulf trips and switch to an ultra-long-range aircraft when travelling farther. You aren’t paying to keep a large aircraft sitting in a hangar between flights.
Jetex gives an average private charter cost of around $10,000 per flight hour, although actual pricing changes substantially with aircraft type, route, repositioning, airport charges and demand.
Ownership starts becoming more interesting when you fly frequently, book at short notice or repeatedly use similar long-distance routes. At that point, aircraft availability and schedule control can justify costs that wouldn’t make sense for a low-frequency traveller.

For a UAE owner who regularly makes very long nonstop trips, the Gulfstream G800 is now more relevant than the G700 as the range-focused choice.
The G800 received FAA and EASA certification in 2025 and Gulfstream has started customer deliveries. Its certified maximum range is 8,200 nautical miles at Mach 0.85, compared with 7,750 nm for the G700.
That level of range makes sense when the aircraft will regularly handle intercontinental missions from the UAE.
The downside is simple: don’t buy an 8,200-nm aircraft if most of your flights are Dubai to Riyadh, Doha, Muscat or similar regional routes. You’d be paying heavily for capability you rarely use.

The Bombardier Global 8000 is another major 2026 update.
It entered service in December 2025 and offers a published 8,000-nautical-mile range. Bombardier also lists a maximum speed of Mach 0.95, making it one of the most capable current business jets for long-distance travel.
For a UAE buyer choosing between the Global 8000 and G800, don’t decide based on 200 nautical miles of headline range.
Compare the actual routes you fly, cabin configuration, delivery availability, support arrangements and total operating budget. Both aircraft already cover missions far beyond what most owners require.

The Falcon 8X remains relevant in 2026 even though its 6,450-nautical-mile range is lower than the G800 and Global 8000.
Its advantage is operational flexibility. Dassault specifically highlights the aircraft’s ability to use airports that can be difficult for larger long-range business jets.
That can make the 8X a better aircraft for an owner flying from the UAE into a mixture of major airports and more restrictive European destinations.
The pre-owned market also changes the calculation. In July 2026, AvBuyer showed Falcon 8X asking prices around $39.9 million to $42.7 million for the aircraft publicly listed on its marketplace. That is a market asking range, not a new-aircraft MSRP.

This is where buyers can avoid a very expensive mistake.
The Embraer Praetor 600 has a published range of 4,018 nautical miles with four passengers and NBAA IFR reserves. Embraer even identifies Singapore to Dubai as one of the missions within the aircraft’s capability under its stated conditions.
For an owner whose flights are mostly across the GCC, India, Africa and parts of Europe and Asia, that may be enough aircraft.
Current market references also show how different the acquisition cost can be. Guardian Jet’s 2026 market data showed Praetor 600 asking prices roughly between $22 million and $29.5 million, depending on year, hours and individual aircraft.
Don’t spend ultra-long-range money merely because an aircraft has a larger cabin and a bigger range number.

The purchase price gets most of the attention. Maintenance status is usually more important to the quality of the deal.
A private jet continues generating costs when it isn’t flying. Crew, insurance, management, hangar space and calendar-based maintenance don’t disappear because you’ve had a quiet month.
With a used aircraft, check:
A cheaper aircraft with major maintenance approaching can easily be a worse purchase than a more expensive aircraft with a clean maintenance position.

If the aircraft will be registered or operated through the UAE, involve an aviation lawyer and aircraft-management company before signing the final purchase documents.
The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority controls aircraft registration and airworthiness requirements. Don’t assume that because an aircraft can be purchased overseas it can automatically be placed on the UAE register under the ownership structure you’ve chosen.
Check registration eligibility, ownership structure, airworthiness documentation and import requirements before funds become non-refundable.
For maximum intercontinental range, shortlist the Gulfstream G800 and Bombardier Global 8000.
If you still need serious long-range capability but want to look at the pre-owned market and value airport flexibility, the Falcon 8X deserves attention.
If most missions don’t require 6,000 to 8,000 nautical miles, look seriously at the Praetor 600 before moving into an ultra-long-range aircraft.
And if you’re below roughly 200 private-flight hours per year, get charter quotes before buying anything. The aircraft may be affordable to purchase, but that doesn’t mean ownership is the efficient choice.
The best private jet isn’t the one with the longest range. It’s the smallest aircraft that can comfortably complete the missions you actually fly.
Chartering usually makes more sense if you fly privately only occasionally. Ownership becomes easier to justify when annual usage is consistently high, often around 200 to 300 flight hours, or when guaranteed aircraft availability is critical.
There is no fixed rate. Aircraft type, route, repositioning, airport fees and demand all affect the quote. Jetex gives an average reference of around $10,000 per flight hour, but long-range aircraft can cost considerably more.
The Gulfstream G800 and Bombardier Global 8000 are two of the strongest options for ultra-long-range travel. The G800 has a published maximum range of 8,200 nautical miles, while the Global 8000 is rated at 8,000 nautical miles.
Usually not. If most trips are between the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and nearby destinations, a smaller aircraft may be much more economical to own and operate. Buying an 8,000-nautical-mile aircraft for mostly regional flights means paying for capability you rarely use.
It can be, but maintenance condition matters more than the purchase price alone. Before buying, check engine and APU records, upcoming inspections, damage history, maintenance-program coverage, aircraft cycles, title history and UAE registration eligibility.
No. UAE aircraft registration is regulated by the General Civil Aviation Authority, and eligibility depends on factors including ownership structure, aircraft documentation, airworthiness and registration requirements. These should be checked before completing the purchase.
For buyers who don’t need extreme range, the Embraer Praetor 600 can be a more practical option. Its published range is just over 4,000 nautical miles, which can cover many common UAE business routes without the acquisition and operating costs of an ultra-long-range jet.
